Music Program

Students in grades K-8 receive music instruction once a week. They learn about music in various ways, including history, theory, culture, vocabulary, and general knowledge of music. During music class, the students are prepared for their individual Class Masses, Las Posadas, and May Procession. They also participate in a class sing-off and Spring "Musical" performance. Our newly formed Choir participates in various events at requested locations

Students also receive hands-on playing opportunities in class, involving a variety of musical instruments, singing, exploring musical styles, and small music research projects. In addition, the interested music student can become involved in private or group lessons.

If you are interested in having your child participate in private or group lessons, contact schooloffice@saintmarys.us.

markoInstrumental music lessons are available in school during recess and immediately after school.

Students can learn to play a variety of instruments including voice, piano, guitar, bass, mandolin, recorder, ukulele, and drums alongside a lesson partner.

Students in 3rd and 8th grade are invited to audition for student bands. Saint Mary's student bands focus on ensemble performances of various styles of music, from rock and popular music to hymns and classics. Student bands are grouped by grade or level and perform in a live concert venue once per semester. Presently, there is a waitlist for lessons, so if you are interested in having your child join the St Mary’s music program, please notify Marko Shinkle so that he can put you on the lesson waitlist.
