Congratulations to our National History Day Winners! The National History Day® (NHD) 2024 contest theme, “Turning Points in Time”, invited students to consider questions of time and place, cause and effect, change over time, and impact and significance. Since the beginning of the school year, two student teams worked tirelessly on their submissions with the goal to enter their projects in the prestigious National History Day Competition.

On Wednesday, March 6 at the National Constitution Center, our seventh grade students, Caroline G., Claire Z., and Lucia C. presented their documentary Willowbrook: A Scandal for Change Caroline G., Claire Z., and Lucia C. and our eighth grade students, Luca T. and Joseph A. presented their website, Jack Mullen: Man of Sound.

The National History Day program is a distinguished national program that promotes research, critical thinking and problem-solving skills through history and civics-based learning. Middle school students have the opportunity to join this program through Saint Mary’s after school STEAM program led by Mrs. Cammisa. Students build creative presentations to compete in local, regional and national competitions. These students have been invited to the National History Day Pennsylvania state competition at the University of Scranton on April 19-20.
